Some common questions

PRIMAL
FAQ’s

Are the group classes suitable for beginners?

Yes all exercises and activities in each class can be adjusted to suit beginners. Our coaches will determine the regression to ensure you get the most benefit from each session.

I'm recovering from an injury, can I still train?

Certainly. Doing safe and appropriate exercises can actually help you speed up your recovery process. Movement is medicine; this means that you are encouraged to stay as active as possible during your recovery. Your coach can work together with your rehabilitation specialist to develop exercising options.

How many classes should I do in a week?

This depends on your level of fitness, time available and what you are trying to achieve. Generally, 2-3 classes a week for the first 4 weeks if you are new to exercising.

I just want to lose weight and tone up. Will lifting weights make me bulky?

Unless you are trying to build muscle bulk, it is very unlikely you will develop “bulky” muscles. The images that you see on social media of professional bodybuilders and fitness athletes requires a lifetime of training, commitment and extreme lifestyle modifications which include extreme dieting to achieve. Lifting weights and resistance training in general will help you develop a leaner and more balanced physique. This applies to all genders, ages and level of fitness.

Apart from classes and Personal Training, what other services do you provide?

We have a remedial massage therapist (Body Reviver) on site. Many of our members use deep tissue massage as part of their recovery and restoration regime. We also have a partnership with a Physiotherapist (CPPhysio) located a few minutes walk from Primal.

I have not exercised for many months, will the classes be too difficult for me?

All classes are scalable, this means that any exercises can can be adjusted/modified to suit your needs. For example, if deep squatting with heavier weights are painful for your knees, your coach can prescribe another exercise which will work on similar muscle groups but have less impact on your knees.

I want to learn how to lift weights correctly, will the coaches teach me how to do this?

Absolutely! One of our core values is to focus on proper lifting techniques. We do that because we want you to reap the benefits of proper lifting and also to reduce any chance of injuries. Right from the very start, your coach will teach and correct you on all exercises/activities regardless of level of difficulty.

Can I still train if I feel muscle soreness?

Yes you can. You can expect to experience some muscular soreness after a session of hard training. This is known as Delayed Onset Muscular Soreness (DOMs). This usually resolves or greatly diminishes after 48-72 hours. You coach will help you with some proper recovery methods to reduce DOMs.

I feel stronger, fitter and my clothes fit better but my weight remains the same, why is that?

This is very likely due to you putting on muscle – which is actually a very good thing! Muscles being denser that fats means that it takes up less space, which explains why your clothes fit better but weight remains unchanged. More muscle mass means a faster metabolism which further aids in fat loss.

Do you provide diet plans?

We have something better than a diet plan – a comprehensive nutrition coaching program which comes together with your standard higher level memberships at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE.

This program is delivered on a week to week basis and coaches you on the most important aspects of proper nutrition to help you lose fat and maintain the fat loss or to put on quality muscle mass. You will be assigned an individual coach throughout your program. The program is suitable for beginners.
Do you recommend any supplements or protein powder?

We generally do not recommend supplements unless there is clear need for this as advised by your health care professional. For example if you are trying a vegetarian type diet and have been advised to increase protein consumption.
